Molbay Adolph Martinez Sr “Hota Mato” (Gray Bear) was born on April 4, 1950 in Hot Springs, SD to Walter and Edith (Clifford) Martinez. Molbay made his journey to the Spirit World on May 23, 2023 at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Molbay grew up on American Horse Creek on his family’s Ranch. With his mother and father and his late brothers and many cousins.
He met his wife Mary in 1965 and got married on May 10th of 1967. Together in their marriage, they had 13 children. Mary and the children were his life.
One thing he would tell his kids was, “Live today like it’s your last, be humble, and keep in touch with a higher power, love you kid.”
Molbay was a great entrepreneur. He taught his children how to live off the land. He was also a farmer, rancher and All-Around Cowboy.
Molbay worked many many jobs – from truck driving, construction work, labor work, but he loved recycling and working with Prairie Berry Winery.
He always tried to help the community. In his younger years, he liked to ride horses, work cattle, and drive his race car but his love was being with his family, his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He will be missed by many.
Molbay is survived by his wife Mary (Red Feather) Martinez; children Molbay Martinez Jr, Danette Martinez, Melissa Martinez, Loretta (David) Martinez-Morales, Julia (Edgar) Martinez-Perea, Sharon Martinez, Ellen (Charles) Martinez-Kieffe, Walter (Annette) Martinez, Flint (Kathy) Martinez, Antoine “Tony” (Jessica) Martinez, Marilu Martinez; Hunka daughter Angel Figuroa; grandchildren Molbay lll, Jonny, Tyler, Phillip, Kallen Lee, Eric, Dakota, Angelina, Kendra, Kim, Celena, Daso, Keith, Johnny, Ethan, Maurice, Marquis, Andre, Bennett, Eddie, Maria, David Jr, Emily, Louis, Edgar Jr, Jaysean, Jesse, James, Mesu, Chanel, Santana, Antwain, Savannah, Chimiqua, Reymond, Laraye, Marty, Patrick, Charles Jr, Walter Jr (Pepper), Rayna, Marykate, Edith, Wyatt, Daniel, Lainey, Ayiana, Jesslyn, Alexandra (Ally), Hailey, and Manuel; and 26 great-grandchildren.
