The South Dakota Highway Patrol has released the names of the people involved in two fatal traffic accidents Saturday night, one in Belle Fourche and the other in Rapid City that involved a Rapid City Police cruiser.

27-year-old Lexi Hagen of Rapid City was killed when the car she was in hit the police SUV about 12:30 Sunday morning.

25-year old Officer Kyle Kumjian was making a left turn into a parking lot when he was hit by a southbound car driven by 26-year old Seth Keim, also of Rapid City, who was traveling at high speed with its lights off.

Hagen was declared dead at the scene while Keim suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Neither was wearing a seatbelt. Officer Kumjian was belted and escaped injury.

77-year old Leroy Fischer of Belle Fourche died when he was hit by a pickup while getting his mail about 9:00 Saturday night a mile east of Belle Fourche.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says Fischer had parked his minivan on the wrong side of the road and didn’t get it all the way off the pavement.

When the driver of the oncoming pickup, 19-year old Jet Tracy, realized the van was on the wrong side of the road, he swerved to try to avoid it but still hit the driver side door, a group of mailboxes, and Fischer.

Fischer’s 71-year old wife Janet, who was in the van was unhurt as was Tracy while his passenger, 20-year old Connor Clausen, received minor injuries. All are from Belle Fourche.
