The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating an apparent murder-suicide attempt in Polk County. The patrol says that the Polk County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance about 2am Tuesday after multiple incidents near Shelby.
Polk County Deputies found a man dead from an apparent gunshot wound at a business south of Shelby. Deputies found a second man with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound on farm ground a short distance away. The man was transported to Bryan West in Lincoln with what are considered to be life-threatening injuries.
Polk County authorities were alerted to the shootings by a woman who drove from the second scene to the Sheriff’s office and told them she had been assaulted. She was taken to Columbus Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
