ORIGINAL STORY

Nebraska Game and Parks says a Gering man drowned in a swimming accident Friday afternoon at Lake Minatare State Recreation Area, northeast of Scottsbluff.

The name of the 42-year-old victim has not been released.

Game and Parks says the man jumped from his boat about 2:30 to swim, but went under the water as his boat drifted away.

The passengers on the boat and other nearby boaters got him out of the water and began CPR as soon as they returned to shore.

They were met at the boat ramp by Nebraska State Patrol troopers who continued life-saving measures until EMTs arrived and took over.

The man was taken to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, but was pronounced dead at the hospital.Â
