Nebraska Gov Pete Ricketts has appointed Aurora businessman and community leader Kirk Penner to the state Board of Education.
Penner fills the vacancy created by the October retirement of Patricia Timm.
The term expires at the end of next year.
Penner has spent 16 years on the Aurora School Board and State Education Commissioner Matthew Blomstedt says that means Penner has experiences and perspectives that will be of great value to both the state board and the Department of Education.
