Tomorrow is the filing deadline for the Nebraska primary election for non-incumbents and there’s still no one running for the two open spots on the Chadron City Council.
Only two non-incumbents have filed for an office in Dawes County since the incumbent filing deadline two weeks ago.
Coleen Margetts has filed for the Chadron School Board while Robert Tovamassian is running for the Crawford City Council.
As of 4:00 yesterday, there were 3 candidates for 3 seats on the Chadron School Board – Margetts and incumbents Boone Huffman and Melissa Webster.
There were also 3 candidates for the Crawford City Council – Tovamassian and incumbents Amanda Lager and Christopher Dean – but there are only 2 seats on the ballot.
Incumbent Don Edelman is the only candidate so far for 3 spots on the Crawford School board and no one has filed for the 2 Chadron City Council seats.
At this point, there will be only 1 contested primary in Dawes County and that’s for the Republican nomination for County Commissioner District 3, where incumbent Webb Johnson did not choose to run.
Squaring off in the GOP primary will be Dave Redden and Walt Juhlin with the winner to be joined on the November ballot by Tony Johnson, who filed as a Libertarian.
Two people have filed to succeed term-limited 43rd District State Senator Tom Brewer – Tanya Storer of Whitman and Tony Tangwall of Whitney. The 43rd District covers 11 counties including Dawes and Sheridan Counties.
There are also 2 candidates for term-limited District 47 Senator Steve Erdman of Bayard – Larry Bollinger of Alliance and Paul Strommen of Sidney. The 47th District stretches from Ogallala to Harrison with Box Butte and Sioux among its 9 counties.
