According to Knox County News, the Northeast Nebraska community of Creighton saw three of its buildings on Main Street sustain major damage from early morning fires. According to Creighton Police Chief Mark Duncan, the call initially came in around 2:30 am CT on Tuesday morning.
The fire started at 816 Main Street and eventually spread to both 814 and 812 Main Street. According to Knox County News, there have been no reported injuries.
Chief Duncan said officers spent time waking people up adjacent to the buildings, while firefighters worked on the fire and called for mutual aid.
Mutual aid came in from Wausa, Bloomfield, Niobrara, Verdigre, Plainview, Crofton, Randolph, Brunswick and O’Neill, including a ladder truck. Herbert Feeds out of Verdigre was also supplying firefighters with water.
Creighton Community Schools called classes off for the day in order to reserve water for use in the attack of the blaze and residents were asked to not use water until the fire was extinguished.
In an early morning press conference, Chief Duncan said they will monitor the structures for collapse and the plan is to bring down the buildings as early as later today depending on information gathered from the fire marshall and insurance companies.
Chief Duncan concluded by offering a thank you to residents for their support, including offering food and refreshments to firefighters and providing gloves as morning temps sat in the upper 30’s and low 40’s.
