A 76 year old Rapid City woman has died after a two vehicle crash Thursday (May 14th) six miles west of Rapid City, South Dakota.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol said in a release that a 1996 Toyota Corolla driven by 56 year year old Leah Thornton of Rapid City entered the intersection on US 16 from Busted Five Court when a westbound 2019 GMC Sierra driven by 58 year year old Donald Holmes of Newcastle, Wyoming collided with the Corolla on US 16. The Corolla spun onto the north shoulder, ejecting the passenger identified as 76 year old Lyla Henrichsen of Rapid City.
Both Thorton and Henrichsen were transported to Monument Health Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Henrichsen later died from her injuries, neither Thornton nor Henrichsen were wearing their seatbelts.
Holmes sustained minor injuries.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, all information released so far is only preliminary.
