After an uneventful weekend, the Chadron Police Department had their hands full to start the work week.

On Monday, the PD responded to 22 total dispatches. However, only one report was filed for criminal mischief in the form of vandalism at Chadron’s Wilson Park. According to Chief Rick Hickstein, a large metal table was found bent by city employees. Estimates on replacing the table were found to be as high as $2200. Police say there are no suspects at this time, but the investigation will continue.

Tuesday’s action started with a citation for speeding in a residential zone. Officer Mick Downing stopped a juvenile driver on Maple Street shortly after 11:30 Tuesday morning. The driver’s speed was not listed in the report and – as a juvenile – their name will not be released.

Tuesday’s final two reports came that afternoon and evening at Chadron’s Walmart retailer. Before 1:30 p.m., store employees contacted the PD regarding an ongoing theft investigation. According to Hickstein, video evidence was provided of a male suspect shoplifting multiple times. The same suspect has allegedly been recorded stealing up to $700 in small merchandise since March. Police are working to identify the suspect.

Lastly, a non-injury vehicular accident came from Walmart’s parking lot around 6:30 Tuesday evening. A commonly-seen “backing up” accident between two vehicles was again to blame. Ultimately, damage was minimal, with neither party sustaining major damage ($1500 or more).
