Nebraska Gov Jim Pillen has selected a long-time Lincoln ear, nose, and throat specialist to be the state’s next chief medical officer. Dr Timothy Tesmer will succeed Dr Gary Anthone on March 27th.
Anthone was appointed by then-Gov Pete Ricketts just before the COVID-19 pandemic began in early 2020, ushering in school and business closings and debates over public masking.
He announced late last year that would step down when Ricketts’ term ended early last month.
Dr Tesmer has been a practicing physician for 35 years, starting with CHI’s Physician Network/ENT Nebraska before going into private practice and opening his own clinic, Tesmer ENT.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University and a medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine.
