Two Lincoln men died Wednesday morning about 9:30 when their small single-engine plane crashed along Interstate 90 about 6 miles east of North Platte near Maxwell.
The Nebraska State Patrol says those killed were the pilot, 41-year-old Adam Helmerichs, and his passenger, 22-year-old Zachary Clausen.
The State Patrol, Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies, and Maxwell Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the crash, which ignited a small grass fire.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash with an NTSB investigator on hand Thursday. Officials have not speculated on the cause of the crash.
