LINCOLN, NEB. – The Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation awarded the Hall County Farm Bureau Scholarship to Preston Sjuts of Trumbull.

Sjuts is a senior at Doniphan-Trumbull High School and plans to study agricultural engineering with an emphasis on natural resources and irrigation at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

“I am passionate about helping farmers, and I want to bridge the gap between agricultural producers and environmentalists to have a positive impact on the hard-working farmers of rural Nebraska through innovation,” said Sjuts. “When farmers do better, we all do better.”

Each year, Hall County Farm Bureau awards a $1,000 scholarship to an outstanding student who lives in or attends school in Hall County and exemplifies leadership, community involvement, and a strong commitment to agriculture.

“Preston is not only hard-working but also consistently demonstrates a drive to succeed that is rare among his peers,” said Sydney Atkinson, business and technology teacher at Doniphan-Trumbull Public Schools. “His drive for success, paired with his strong work ethic and leadership qualities, will allow him to thrive in both his college experience and future career.”

Sjuts has been actively involved in numerous school and community organizations, including FFA, FBLA, athletics, and community service projects. Through these experiences, he has developed a passion for serving others and supporting the future of agriculture in rural areas.

“Students like Preston represent the future of agriculture in Nebraska,” said Megahn Schafer, Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation executive director. “His dedication to leadership, service, and innovation, combined with his passion for supporting Nebraska farmers and protecting natural resources, will make a lasting impact on his community and our state.”

Sjuts expressed deep gratitude for the support of the scholarship as he prepares to begin his college studies. He said the award will allow him to focus more fully on his coursework and future career in agricultural engineering while remaining engaged in campus leadership and activities.

“I wholeheartedly thank you for your generous support of my educational goals!” said Sjuts.
