Provance Wins Gold, Chadron Medal Count Runs To Seven

Xander Provance became Chadron’s first state track champion since 2008, on Thursday, by winning the Class B boys 110m High Hurdles in a time of 14.46.

Provance entered the finals with the 3rd fastest time following Wednesday’s preliminaries, but pulled away from the field in the finals by almost a full half a second. Rhett Cullers placed 6th in the 110m High Hurdles with a time of 15.61.

Allen Osborn was the last Cardinal to stand at the top of the medal stand wearing gold after capturing a title in the same event back in 2008.

Tatum Bailey and Malachi Swallow snagged 3rd place medals in their events on Thursday as Bailey cleared 5’ 3” in the girls high jump and Swallow crossed the finish line of the 300m intermediate hurdles in 39.57. Bailey also claimed 7th in the girls triple jump with a leap of 34’ 6.75”.

Chayton Bynes earned his 2nd medal of the meet using his 2nd jump of finals to hit 22’ 0.5” in the boys long jump to place 4th.

The 29 points accumulated by the Chadron boys are the most team points in school history.
