Regents Candidate Kathy Wilmot Holding Meet And Greet In Chadron Tues At Just Love Coffee

Loading

Kathy Wilmot of Beaver City has brought her campaign for the University of Nebraska Board of Regents to the Panhandle and will have a Meet and Greet Tuesday in Chadron at Just Love Coffee, starting at 1:30.

Wilmot is running for the District 7 seat on the Board of Regents, which encompasses 45 districts in the western and central parts of the state. It’s currently held by Bob Phares of North Platte, who decided not to run for a third term.

This isn’t her first stab at public office. Wilmot served 2 terms on the Nebraska State Board of Education – which she feels provides excellent experience to do the job as a Regent.

Wilmot says that while on the State Board of Education, her focus was on making sure local school boards are the ones making decisions on spending and academic standards.

She’s proud of helping kill a comprehensive sex education cirruculum and grant program.

Wilmot is a 6th-generation Nebraskan and UNL graduate who has worked as a teacher, Equal Opportunity Commission Investigator, and a training officer and accreditation manager for the Kansas Dept of Corrections.

She’s the current president of the Nebraska affiliate of the Eagle Forum, a conservative interest group founded by Phyllis Schlafly in 1972
