Funeral services for 71-year old Richard “Manny” Wilson Jr are Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10:00 at the Pine Ridge Elementary School Gym in Pine Ridge, SD, with Dale Pine officiating and traditional Lakota Services by Peta Catches
Burial is at the Wilson Family Cemetery in #4 Community, Pine Ridge.
A one-night wake service starts Friday, April 19, at 2:00 at the Pine Ridge Elementary School Gym in Pine Ridge.
Richard “Manny” Allen Wilson Jr “Tasunke Gleska was born on April 23, 1953 in Pine Ridge, SD to Richard A Wilson S. and Yvonne Rae (Whalen) Wilson. Richard Jr made his journey to the Spirit World on April 11, 2024 at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Manny graduated high school from OCS in 1971. He was a Champion bareback cowboy and rode a buffalo and a yak for fun. He also rode in the 1975 Big Foot Ride during a blizzard.
Manny entered the Army with his cousin Monte Whalen in 1976, but after a medical discharge returned to Pine Ridge for several years. He then moved to Portland, OR where he obtained a license in upholstery and won many awards for reupholstering boats.
When he returned to Pine Ridge, he worked at the Rural Water program for several years before becoming one of the first slot techs at Prairie Wind Casino when it opened in 1994.
Richard is survived by his children, MSG Lorena (Jamaal) Wilson (US Army), Dr Dena (Craig) Wilson (Cardiologist), Allen Wilson, Chelsea (Glen) Wilson-Marshall, Kayla Wilson, Jace Wilson, Billy (Liz) Wilson, LuWana (Louis) Janis, Kevin (Shawna) Apple, and Ryan (Tara) Apple; sisters Saunie K Wilson, Mona Wilson, Holly Wilson, Connie Wilson, Amy Wilson, Patty Mestaz, Joanna Wilson; brothers, Steve (Jessica) Wilson Sr, Ted Coomes, and Dale “Ducky” Harris; grandchildren (Lorena) Jesse (Wamni) Brewer, Kia Taylor, Kevin Taylor Jr, KhaliJah Joseph, (Allen) Julia Pearl Simms-Wilson, William Tȟokȟála Waš’áke Wilson, (Kayla) Jaylen Wilson, Keaton Wilson, Bailey Wilson, Anthony Wilson, (Jace) Kenny Wilson, Delores Wilson, (Billy) Bella, Brianna, Berayah, Braydon, (Kevin) Samantha Apple, Kevin Apple Jr, Ryan Apple, Rishaun Apple, Giovantae Apple, Maliyah Apple, Lukas Apple, Brooklynn Apple, (Ryan) Clarinda Dubray, Daydria Apple, Niah Siquieros, Tony Siquieros Jr, Izayah Apple; great-grandchildren,Jacob Brewer and Kaiden Brewer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Richard was preceded in death by his spouse Delores (Apple) Wilson; parents Richard “Dick” Wilson Sr and Yvonne “Sister” (Whalen) Wilson; brother Billy Wilson; sister Edna Wilson; paternal grandparents Jim & Julia (Janis) Wilson; maternal grandparents Richard “Dick” Whalen and Emma (Henry-DeCorah) Whalen; nephews Timothy Wilson, Tyrell Wilson; nieces Cassandra Pine, Christine Wilson, Chantel Bacon-Wilson; great-nephews Hayden Goings Youngman Afraid of His Horses, Logan Goings and Chance Wallette.
Pallbearers will be Allen Wilson, Jace Wilson, Billy Wilson, Garren Wilson, Meco Goings, Frances Wilson, Lyle Wilson Jr, John Gallego.
