FIRE STILL AT 30 ACRES AND 40% CONTAINED AS OF 5:00 AM MONDAY MORNING

As of Sunday afternoon, the Roadrunner Fire – burning on Nebraska Game and Parks land west of Crawford near Smiley Canyon – was listed at 40% contained and still at 30-acres.

Crawford Fire Chief Brian Prosser says dozer lines have been established around most of the perimeter with future growth likely to come from the interior – which he expects to burn for several more days.

Chief Prosser says the first call on the Roadrunner Fire came in about 2:30 Saturday afternoon with Crawford, Game and Parks, and U-S Forest Service crews all responding.

Game and Parks crews monitored the fire overnight Saturday with Crawford and Forest Service crews returning yesterday morning at 6:00 – including a hand crew from the Pine Ridge Job Corps Center.

Meanwhile, demobilization is continuing on the Natick Fire near Halsey in the Nebraska National Forest.

No update was given yesterday, but only 30 firefighters had remained on the blaze Saturday afternoon when it was listed at 80% contained following nearly an inch of rain Friday night. More complete mapping dropped the size estimate from 2,500 to 1,849 acres.
