Fans on the home team side of Cardinal Field at Chadron High School will have a safer and possibly more comfortable place to sit this fall.
The school board has approved a $27,000 contract with Heartland Seating Inc of Shawnee, Kansas, to replace the aging wooden bleacher seats with aluminum seating.
Superintendent Ginger Meyer says the wooden seats have served the district well, but are weathering badly and pose an increasing risk of splinters and other injuries.
The base cost of the new bleachers is a little over $21,000 with the school district paying another nearly $6,000 to have Heartland Seating install the plank and brackets.
The district will save almost $2,300 by having its own crew remove the existing bleachers before the company arrives to install the new ones.
