The state of South Dakota is increasing its partnership with ICE, the immigration and customs enforcement.
Governor Rohden has announced the expansion which comes nearly one year after Highway troopers were trained to assist ICE. Since the initial troopers were trained another 13 troopers have been trained and the new expansion will more than double that number.
Rhoden said that they will end up with over 40 and that they have had great success. Rhoden said they have arrested 150 illegal criminal aliens including one when he was doing a ride-along in Watertown. The Governor said the man had already been deported back to Mexico.
Rhoden said 9 of the deported were cartel members with a couple he called really bad actors.
Rhoden added that the department of corrections and the National Guard continue to work with ICE, with the guard helping to process the paperwork and process the deportations of 664 illegal immigrants out of South Dakota.
