Chadron High distance runner Mackenzie Anderson, daughter of KCSR/KBPY sports director Jeremy Anderson and his wife Genie, has signed a letter of intent with Chadron State to compete in both track and cross country.
     Mackenzie had received offers or interest from more than a half-dozen schools, most in other states, but was excited to get the offer from Eagles head cross country coach Luke Karamitros since she would be able to stay close to her folks and younger sister Annica.Â
Mackenzie was a 3-time state cross country qualifier, placing 7th as a sophomore after winning the district title. She was the district runner-up as a freshman, the year she set the Chadron High cross country record.
Mackenzie began to experience chronic injuries in her junior year and sat out last fall with plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis, but says she’s been recovering well with rest, physical therapy, and shoe inserts.
Coach Karamitros says he’s confident Mackenzie will be fully recovered and in running condition by this fall, adding that he knows from experience that with smart and careful work she can again run at the level she did her first 2 years in high school.
