The North won the 64th Nebraska Shrine Bowl 17-15 last night at Nebraska-Kearney on a safety with 4-minutes to go.

After a scoreless 1st quarter, both teams scored twice in the 2nd. The North went up 8-0 with just under 10:00 left in the half on a 47-yd bomb, but the South answered with a TD pass of its own with 4:40 left.

Dylan Mostek of Bennington, who holds the Nebraska 11-man career rushing record, put the North back on top with the only TD catch of his career with less than 2:00 to go in the half, but the South took advantage of an interception and tied the game at 15 just 12-seconds before intermission.

The game remained tied until the 4th quarter. The North recovered a fumble inside the South 10 but was stopped inches short of the goal line on 4th down. The South picked up a few yards on 1st down, but then gave up back-to-back sacks – the last for the game-winning safety.

Mostek was named the games Offensive MVP after rushing 29 times for 156 yds and getting his touchdown catch. Defensive honors went to Jake Leader of the South and Lincoln Southwest High School

There were 3 Panhandle players in the game – Chadron’s Dawson Dunbar and Scottsbluff teammates Trevor Schwartz and Chance Symons – as was future CSC Eagle Jake Masker of Kearney Catholic
