SWANN Promotes From Within For New Operations Director

Loading

SWANN, the Solid Waste Agency of Northwest Nebraska, has its third operations director in less than 6 months.

Jay Waldron succeeds Jake Stewart, who was appointed executive director with the retirement last month of Jack Nemeth after having joined SWANN as operations director this spring when Duane Rhembrandt retired.

Waldron is a long-time Chadron resident, but has worked for SWANN only about a year in the collection department.

Stewart says he chose Waldron because the operations director leads both the collection and disposal departments, and Waldron brings to the job first-hand experience on how both work.

Stewart says SWANN had an excellent pool of applicants for the position and that it says a lot about the quality of the agency’s employees that both finalists were in-house candidates.

SWANN celebrated its 30th anniversary last year of serving Dawes, Sioux, and Sheridan Counties, the incorporated communities in those counties, and the town of Hemingford.

The agency’s landfill is about 15-miles northwest of Chadron on Hwy 385 while its transfer station and baler are in Chadron. In-town customers pay for collection and landfill services while rural residents pay for only the landfill.

SWANN also has manned disposal/transfer sites in each of its communities, and Stewart encourages all its customers to get to know where their local community site is, to meet the staff there, and learn the most-effective disposal options for their waste.
