Tornado Cleanup Continues At Wyoming Coal Mine

Loading

Clean up continues from a tornado that hit the North Antelope Rochelle coal mine between Casper and Douglas during a shift change about 6:00 Friday night.

Peabody Energy has suspended operations at the mine, the highest producing coal operation in the country, until it can fully assess the damage to the facility and begin the process of restarting operations safely.

There were no deaths, but 8 people were injured with 7 people taken to the hospital, 6 in Gillette and 1 in Douglas.

Many of the vehicles at the mine were damaged by the twister, so school buses and other vehicles were provided by the Gillette school district and other sources to take workers home to Gillette, Douglas, and Casper.
