The Nebraska State Patrol and Lincoln County law enforcement arrested a 29-year-old man after a high-speed pursuit Tuesday afternoon.
Around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper observed a silver 2006 Corvette speeding at 117 miles per hour. That same Corvette was previously called in for reckless driving. The trooper attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the driver fled, leading to a pursuit.
During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle reached speeds of 140 miles per hour and passed vehicles on the shoulder. Due to traffic, the trooper lost sight of the vehicle and requested backup. Thereafter, troopers successfully deployed stop sticks to slow the vehicle. Despite the stop sticks, the Corvette exited I-80 attempting to flee into North Platte but was blocked from doing so.
With assistance from Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the North Platte Police Department, troopers apprehended the driver and placed him under arrest. During the arrest, troopers detected an odor of alcohol.
The driver, 29-year-old Mason Honeyman, was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail. Honeyman has been charged with DUI second offense, willful reckless driving, operating a vehicle to avoid arrest, driving during revocation, and other traffic violations.
