Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol removed 30 impaired drivers from the road during the first week of April. The effort corresponded with a national campaign to begin Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
“Spring means better travel conditions and more traffic starting to hit the road in Nebraska, but safe driving is a year-round effort,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “With every trip, no matter the distance, put your phone down and keep your focus on the road.”
During the U Drive. U Text. U Pay. campaign, troopers arrested 30 people for driving under the influence of alcohol. Troopers also issued citations for speeding (633), speeding at 100 MPH or more (28), driving under suspension (56), no seat belt (9), improper child restraint (6), and distracted driving (1). Troopers performed 315 motorist assists during the campaign as well.
The U Drive. U Text. U Pay. campaign ran from April 1 to April 8. Whether in Distracted Driving Awareness Month or any time of the year, NSP urges all motorists to eliminate distractions when you’re behind the wheel.
This campaign was made possible thanks in part to a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office (NDOT-HSO).
