Friday was a deadly day in the Black Black Hills with two fatal traffic accidents, each claiming one life. Names have not been released.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the first accident was about 8:30 Friday morning on Hwy 79 inside the Hermosa city limits.
An 80-year old man was killed when he tried to enter a parking lot on the other side of the highway and turned in front of an oncoming semi. He died at the Rapid City hospital. The driver of the semi was not hurt. Both men were wearing seat belts.
The second fatal accident happened just before midnight Friday night in a rollover involving an ATV. The 51-year old male driver was killed while his two male passengers, ages 25 and 39, suffered minor injuries.
The Highway Patrol says the ATV was eastbound on Experimental Forest Road about 14 miles south of Deadwood when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The ATV went off the pavement and rolled with all 3 occupants thrown off.
