Two Small Area Fires Human-Caused; Be Careful

Loading

Two fires in the Chadrad Communications region last week underscore the fact that conditions are dry and caution is needed.

A 6-acre fire about 3 miles northeast of Chadron Wednesday afternoon and a tenth-of-an-acre blaze the same day a half-mile southwest of Argyle, SD, were both listed as human-caused.

If you’re going to be in the Black Hills today, don’t worry if you see smoke west of Custer.

The Black Hills National Forest is planning a prescribed burn about 2 miles northwest of Jewel Cave National Monument

Smoke will be visible for several miles and could impact Highway 16 west of Custer. The controlled burn is intended to reduce fuel for wildfires and to improve wildlife habitat.
