The Nebraska National Forests And Grasslands is taking advantage of the weather to burn slash piles today about 7 miles southeast of Chadron.
Pine Ridge District Ranger Tim Buskirk says the piles of limbs and other timber debris, mostly from thinning operations, are extremely dry so the cold and snow weather won’t impede the piles burning but will help guard against any of the fires spreading.
Buskirk says smoke from the burning piles will be visible from Bordeaux Road and possibly Hwy 20, but emphasizes there’s nothing to worry about – adding that crews will be checking on each one for the next few days.
Its no wonder there is no small game animals left in western Neb. why burn the habitat.
