Warriors Open Season 0-2

The basketball season got underway over the weekend, and a young Sioux County boys team opened the year with two losses.

The Warriors faced Cody-Kilgore Thursday and took on Crawford Saturday. Cody-Kilgore defeated Sioux County 60-15, jumping out to a 17-6 lead in the first quarter. The Cowboys were up 36-8 by half-time and padded their lead with a 16-7 run in the third. Cody-Kilgore’s pace slowed in the final frame, as they added just eight points to the board, but still shut out the Warriors in the final minutes.

Cy Hughson led the Warriors with five points, while Shane Gluth and Colton Randall each added four. William Skavdahl had two. Cooper Fay led the Cowboys with 12.

Crawford used the first half to build a commanding lead Saturday in a 49-24 victory over Sioux County. The Rams led 14-7 after the opening quarter and used a 16-3 run in the second to take a 30-10 lead into the locker room. Neither team found much in terms of offense during the third quarter, with the Rams adding five to the board, and Sioux County netting just three points. The final eight minutes were the Warriors best offensively, as they added 11 points to their tally, but they allowed 14 by the Rams for the final margin.

Hughson scored seven for the Warriors, and Colton Randall chipped in five. Three players – Jack Hunter, William Skavdahl and Shane Gluth – added four apiece for Sioux County.
