Warriors Triumph Over Oelrichs, Banner County

The Sioux County Warriors went 2-1 on the hardwood last week, picking up wins over Oelrichs and Banner County and dropping a close one to Arthur County.

The men opened the week on Tuesday with a 54-47 loss to Arthur County. The Warriors had three players score in double digits as they challenged the Wolves. They were led by Jack Hunter with 21 points, which included four treys. William Skavdahl added 14, and Shane Gluth contributed 10.

The contest started as a shootout, with Arthur edging Sioux County 11-10 in the first quarter. The Wolves extended their lead to 22-15 at half-time as Sioux County’s shooting cooled. After the break, the Warriors got back to business with a 20-15 run to pull within two points, 37-35, as the final period started. Arthur hung on and used a 17-12 win to earn the win.

Two nights later, Sioux County defeated Oelrichs 55-24. The Warriors scored in double digits all four quarters and held the Tigers to just four points in the first half for a 23-4 lead. Oelrichs sank four three-pointers after the break, but Sioux County added 18 to the board and capped the game with a 14-6 run. Cy Hughson led Sioux County with 13 points, while Skavdahl netted 11.

The Warriors extended their win streak to two Saturday with a 54-46 showing over Banner County. Sioux County maintained a slight 9-7 advantage after one quarter but used an 18-14 run to give themselves a six point cushion at halftime. The Warriors added to their lead with 17 points in the third quarter, while holding Banner County to 13 points and entered the final period with a 44-34 edge. The Wildcats outpaced Sioux County 12-9 in the final eight minutes, but it wasn’t enough to get the win.

The Warriors again had three players scoring in double digits. Skavdahl led Sioux County with 17 points, followed by Logan Monroe with 15, including two of the Warriors’ six three-pointers. Cy Hughson also drained two treys and netted 11 points. Hunter added two other three-pointers.
