Wilma (Willie) Hanson Geiser was born October 12, 1929,in Lusk, Wyo, to Guy and Angie Hanson.  She passed away January 3, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Harrison, where she’d lived in recent years.

Willie spent her early years on a ranch north of Van Tassel, Wyo, with her 2 sisters and 3 brothers.  When she was in the 3rd grade, they moved to Harrison where she finished grade school and high school, graduating from SCHS in 1947.

After graduation, she attended Chadron State College for one year while also working for Dr Mullins as a dental assistant. She then returned to Harrison and was hired as Deputy County Treasurer.

On August 28, 1950, Willie married John “Jack” Geiser in Ardmore, SD. They had 3 children, Ruth Ann, Donita Rae and John William Jr.

Willie and Jack spent 47 happy years on the Geiser home place 30 miles north of Harrison before moving into Harrison in 1997 to spend their remaining years.

Living in town gave them the opportunity to have a nice yard and Christmas decorations others could enjoy.  They enjoyed living in town, but said the ranch would always be home. They celebrated 65 years together before Jack passed away in 2016.

To keep herself busy, Willie continued walking and having coffee with the “girls” – Dorothy, Mary and Carroll. They continued to get together until they weren’t able. If one of them went to town, you could bet the rest would be with them.

Bridge was another big pastime for her.  She had belonged to a bridge club when she lived in the country, so quickly found herself a club in town to continue her love of the game.

Willie was very proud to tell people about her 12 grandchildren. The grandkids loved going to the ranch to stay with grandpa and grandma, and say that life was never as exciting in town – no 3-wheelers, no horses, no cows, no tractors, etc.

After Jack passed away, Willie sold the house and moved into the Coffee Apartments.  She loved her little apartment, but there came a time when it really wasn’t safe for her to live alone.  Her daughter Ruth opened her home to Willie and that is where she resided till her death on January 3, 2023.

Willie is survived by her children Ruth (Criss) Hamaker, Donita (Roger) Weis and John (Sandie) Geiser; grandchildren Traci Kennedy, Tonya Gluth, Tessa Hamaker, Monte Hamaker, Craig Hourt, Jace Hourt, Jerilyn Suridis, Julisa Weis, Joel Weis, JW Geiser, Jory Geiser, and Joni LaFluer; and great-grand-children Spenser, Brandt, Austin, Adrianne, Shane, Kolbie Bradie, Gentry, Trey, Coral, Mackenzie, Sofia, Nicolas, Athena, Stella, Grant, Jack, Emmerson.

Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron, NE, is in charge of arrangements for Wilma “Willie” Geiser.
