Funeral services for 67-year old Winifred (Janis) Flying Hawk are Sat, Jan 28, 2023 at 10:00 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge.
Burial will be held at a later date.
A one-night wake service starts Friday, Jan 27, at 3:00 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge with rosary services starting at 7:00.
Winifred Winola (Janis) Flying Hawk was born on July 31, 1955, in Pine Ridge to Hobart Janis and Ella Mary (Ringing Shield) Janis. Winifred made her journey to the Spirit World on January 15, 2023 at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD.
Winifred is survived by her children Mary Janis-Gibson, Lisa Flying Hawk, Reva Bauer-Janis, and Jesse Janis; half-sisters Bernadette and Josephine Freeman; aunt Mary (Janis) Merrival; grandchild Jessica Janis; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins and friends.
Winifred was preceded in death by her husband Claire Flying Hawk; parents Hobart Janis and Ella Mary (Ringing Shield) Janis; and siblings Filbert Janis Sr, Anthony Wayne Janis Sr, Martin “Beans” Janis, Courtland Janis and Benjamin Freeman.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Cottier, Ann Janis, Filbert Janis, Bishop Cottier, Andrew Cottier and Jaelynn Cottier.
Honorary pallbearers will be All Friends & Relatives.
