Chadron qualified 2 competitors for next week’s girls wrestling state tournament: Fia Rasmussen at 145 and Josey Werner at 100.
Rasmussen, who placed 6th at state last year, successfully defended her district title by pinning Alexa Karch of Omaha Benson in just 35-seconds in the finals.
Rasmussen pinned her opening opponent, Anna Naeve of Wayne in 1:28, then won in the semifinals with an 8-2 decision of Bellevue East’s Eliana Fletcher.
Werner won her spot at state with a 4th place finish. After getting a first-round bye, she was pinned in the semifinals by Nattlie Hull of Scribner-Snyder in 3:20.
Werner bounced back in the consolation semifinals, taking just 26-seconds to pin Lah Ku Paw of Omaha Benson, but lost the 3rd place match to Wayne’s Essynce Owens-Webb 6-0.
Chadron’s other 2 district competitors, Bristol Prado at 120 and Addie Diers at 155, were both eliminated in the consolation semifinals
Prado was pinned in her first match by Corah Linnaus of Stanton at the 3:12 mark, but responded with a late pin of her own in 4:05 over Elaina Fletcher of Bellevue East.
Prado’s season ended with a tough 6-4 decision to Tekamah-Herman’s Kristi Raue. She finishes the year 28-9.
Diers saw all 3 of her matches end with falls. She pinned Avery Albers of York at the 5:20 mark, then was pinned herself in 2:38 by Scribner-Snyder’s Kristen Schellenberg in the semifinals
She was pinned again in the consolation semifinals by Ziomara Ruiz from West Point-Beemer in 1:40. Diers ends her season with a sparkling 32-5 record.
