An apartment building under construction was burned down Tuesday afternoon in Cheyenne.

Over 50 firefighters fought the blaze that was reported at 3:35 with the first fire crews arriving five minutes later and finding the building heavily involved. The building was near several other apartment buildings but fire crews were able to protect those buildings. Cheyenne Fire said that they were hampered by high winds so they were only able to fight the fire defensively using aerial master streams and hand lines to protect them. Aerial lines were used on the main fire as well.

The three story building appeared to be a total loss.

The main fire was out just before five with crews remaining on the scene into the evening to monitor hot spots. No cause of the fire has been determined and the investigation continues. Officials said there were no injuries to the construction company employees or firefighters.
