Area Athletes Compete at Best in the West

Crawford and Hay Springs sent a contingent of student-athletes to Scottsbluff Tuesday night to compete for Best in the West titles. Hay Springs had six with Parker Wellnitz and Arian Mata running in individual events along with being apart of the boys 4×800 team along with Alaina Raymer competing in the long jump and Reese Varvel in 400 while Crawford sent over Taylor Homan to run in the 800, Leah Holmgren in the triple jump along with the girls 4×800 team. 

Lets start with the longest runner of the day as Parker Wellnitz from Hay Springs brought home some hardware after running 6400 meters between the 800, 1600, 3200 and as part of the 4×800 relay team. He landed a top finish of fourth in the 1600, got third in the 3200 and eighth in the 800. Mata was able to get seventh in the 1600. 

The Hawks boys 4×800 team of Easton Mintken, Mason Albrecht, Wellnitz and Mata were able to place third.

The Hawks girls saw Reese Varvel get seventh in the 400 while Aliana Raymer got 10th in the triple jump.

Crawford’s Taylor Homan get ninth in the 800 and Leah Holmgren get fourth in triple jump. The Rams girls 4×800 team consisting of Keslyn Vogel, Peyton Osmotherly, Kember Mittan and Kylee Osmotherly got fifth.
