Chadron Police Department Chief Rick Hickstein says his department took a call a few months ago regarding a family dog that was found deceased in the backyard of the owner’s residence. According to Hickstein, after collecting evidence, interviewing any witnesses, and searching for answers regarding the circumstances of the pet’s passing, very few information or leads have come up in the investigation. The public is encouraged to step forward and share any information they may have regarding what may have occurred between February 10th and February 15th in the area of King Street. Hickstein asks that those individuals call the department’s non emergency line at 308-432-0510 and request Officer Deines.
Although information regarding what occurred to the animal is scarce, Hickstein says considering the circumstances, he doesn’t believe that this is a widespread incident. He stated, “We haven’t had any other calls before or since that investigation of anything similar happening to any other animals in Chadron.” A vet was brought in to try and determine the official cause of death of the animal, and it was determined to likely be decapitation.
