The final home match of the season featured the Chadron Cardinals hosting class B foe Sidney in a packed house on Tuesday night. The Cardinals fell in the first set but controlled the match the rest of the way winning 3-1.
The Cardinals got the first two points of the first set and controlled it the rest of the way but Sidney went on a run late, and ended up winning 25-23.
The rest of the match was all the Chadron Cardinals as they cleared the Red Raiders 25-16 in the second set, controlled the third set 25-20 and put the nail in the coffin with a 25-18 fourth set to win the match 3-1. Head coach Blakelee Hoffman said after the match, โItโs a great day when you get a win against Sidney! Our serving and passing game is what won this match for us.โ
The Cardinals were led in kills by junior Paige Slingsby who finished with 14, hitting .265. Freshman Jezy Alcorn hit a team best .300 with 11 kills which was second on the team. The Cardinals finished with 42 kills while hitting .174.
Serving wise the Cardinals were led by Jenny Pinnt who finished with four aces on the night. The team on 96 service attempts only had 10 errors for a 89.6% serving rate. Passing wise the Cardinals were led by Pinnt who finished with 39 of the 41 assists for the Cardinals.
There was one senior who was honored by the Cardinals Tuesday night and that Kierra Haag, she finished with 14 digs and 11 serves received.
The Cardinals are now 13-18 and will go to Valentine on Saturday for the Valentine invite with Ainsworth, Cozad, Gordon-Rushville and Valentine, before wrapping up the regular season at Alliance on the 21st.ย
