Flags At Half-Staff For State Senator Rich Pahls

Flags in Nebraska are flying at half-staff until sunset Thursday in honor of State Senator Rich Pahls of Omaha. His office says Pahls died recently of complications from cancer. He was 78.

Pahls was a career educator, retiring as an administrator in the Millard Public Schools. A registered Republican, he was elected to the Legislature in 2004 and reelected in 2008.

Term-limited in 2012, Pahls instead ran for and won a seat on the Omaha City Council and served 2 terms before returning to the Legislature in 2020. Health issues sidelined him for the closing days of this year’s session.

Pahls is being praised by educators and by elected officials from both parties as a dedicated educator and public servant, a true leader who was dedicated to improving his community.
