Noon Update: Containment of the Ash Pole Fire has risen to 47% with acres burned at 1,100

Firefighters continue to battle the four fires across the Nebraska panhandle that were sparked when a group of dry storms pushed through the area Wednesday night.

The Ash Pole Fire burning nine miles southeast of Crawford is sitting at 1,026.9 acres as of Thursday night. Firefighters attacked the blaze throughout the day Thursday into Friday morning with ground and air resources. Command of the blaze was transferred to the United State Forest Service as of Thursday evening.  Firefighters were able to gain 20% containment on the blaze overnight Thursday into Friday. 

Firefighters were able to build a line Thursday with the support of two crews, nine engines, four single engine air tankers and one type one helicopter.

The Grizzly Bear Fire just to the east of the Ash Pole has burned just over 73 acres as of Friday morning.

The Rocky Fire burning just to the southwest of Harrison has a little more than six acres burned.

10 miles north of Henry in rural Sioux County the Sandy Fire has reportedly burned 425 acres. 

Power was restored Friday morning after being out the majority of the day Thursday into Thursday night in the area of Squaw Mound and Table Roads north of Hough Road. 

Weather for the rest of the day Friday indicates high temperature in the lower 80’s with calmer winds. Saturday will see increasing chances of precipitation in the late afternoon hours with high temperature in the lower 80’s and increasing winds before the chances of precipitation jump to 80% Saturday night.
