On Thursday, November 24, 2022 Lance “Chip” Wayne Hunter entered the Spirit World at the age of 61.
Chip was born on April 12, 1961 in the back of a Ford station wagon to Arlette J Hunter, and was raised by his grandparents, Elvira Hunter and Lenard Stephen Hunter.
He welcomed his first child, Daniel Bull Bear, to the world in 1982 and in 1988, he wed his wife of 15 years, Mary Stickney. During that union, they had two children: Lillian Hunter in 1989 and Samantha Hunter in 1991. He later welcomed his final child in 2005, Nikolis Hunter-Netzer.
After some time he moved home and resided in Pine Ridge, where he spent the remainder of his life working for the Oglala Sioux Tribe Road Department.
Chip was a truly caring man. Whether it was helping someone fix their vehicle or shoveling snow, he was already graciously willing to lend a helping hand in his community when needed.
He made many friends over the years. Many of these friends were made in his time spent at rodeos, go-karting, mud bogging, and working with cars and motorcycles, to name a few.
During his generous way of living life, Chip impacted his family, Kolas, and community in a way in which he will be fondly remembered. In the final chapter of his life, Chips was a proud member of the Oglala Drifters, where he now continues to ride among the stars.
Chip is survived by his sons Daniel (Novlyn) Bull Bear of Martin, SD, Nikolis Hunter-Ntzer of Mobridge, SD, and Robert (Rianne) Stickney of Yankton, SD; daughters Lillian (Andy) Hunter and Samantha (Nate) Hunter, both of Rapid City, SD; sisters Penny Hunter-Downham of Kyle, SD and Diane Chips-Clark of Sturgis, SD; nephews Jim and Lenny, (who he held close to his heart); grandchildren Andylan of Rapid City, SD, Danny Jr, Nate, Merella and Lily, all of Martin, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, and his many friends he has met along his journey.
