Funeral services for 62-year old Marvin Bad Wound are Sat, Jan 29, 2022 at noon at the Sioux Funeral Home in Pine Ridge, SD, with Fr Ron Seminara, S.J, officiating and traditional Lakota services by Mr Delane Has No Horse

Burial is at St John’s Catholic Cemetery in Allen, SD

Viewing precedes the funeral Saturday morning from 10:00-noon, also at the Sioux Funeral Home in Pine Ridge. A meal will be served during the viewing.

Marvin Thomas Bad Wound was born on February 16, 1959 in Martin, SD to James and Agnes (Fire Thunder) Bad Wound. Marvin made his journey to the Spirit World on January 23, 2022 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Marvin attended elementary school at the Allen Day, School then went on to graduate from Holy Rosary Mission in 1977. In 1978-1979, he attended vocational training in auto mechanics and received a 2 year certificate. 

Marvin next enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served from 1980-1984. After his discharge, he returned to the reservation and was employed by OST Public Safety as a Tribal Officer until 1986, when he switched to the BIA police.

He served on the Pine Ridge Reservation (1987-1988), the 

Marvin was assigned to the Pima Agency in Sacaton, AZ (1988-1989), the Rosebud Reservation in Rosebud, SD (1989-1991), and the Wind River Agency in Ft. Washaski, WY (1991-97). 

He rejoined OST Public Safety as a Tribal Officer in 1997 and went on to serve as Chief of Police for OST Public Safety from 2001-2003. 

Marvin went back to the BIA as Criminal Investigator, first at its Billings, MT, office (2003-2005) and then back to the Pine Ridge Agency (2005-15).

For the past 5-plus years, he was a Transport Driver with the OST Ambulance Service.

Marvin is survived by his spouse, Linda (Goings) Bad Wound; children Katheena (Mike Harvey) Bad Wound, Crystal (Garfield Steele) Bad Wound, and Mindi Bad Wound; brother John Bad Wound Sr; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, James & Agnes (Fire Thunder) Bad Wound; sister Mary Ann Bad Wound; brother Jimmy Charles Bad Wound; and great-granddaughter Jessica Bad Wound.

Pallbearers will be Don Clifford Jr, Mike Whirlwind Horse, Johnathon Bad Wound, Shawn Imitates Dog, John Bad Wound Jr, Marty Waters, and Leonard Mills.

Honorary pallbearers will be OST Public Safety Officers, OST Ambulance workers, Legion Post, and All Friends & Relatives.

Marvin Bad Wound was a veteran of the U-S Marine Corps and his arrangements are entrusted with Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge.
