Natural Causes Apparently Responsible For Death Of Jail Inmate In Rapid City

Pennington County authorities say it appears an inmate of the county jail in Rapid City died of natural causes in his cell Tuesday night.

65-year-old Floyd Slow Bear of Rapid City had been booked into the jail a little before 6:30 Tuesday evening on a disorderly conduct charge stemming from what was listed as simply “a disturbance in the community.”

Slow Bear was found dead in his cell about 1:45 am by corrections staff making normal rounds of the jail.

Preliminary results from an autopsy conducted Wednesday morning indicate Slow Bear died of natural causes, but final results are pending. The case is now in the hands of the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
