The Nebraska State Patrol says the body of a man found in a submerged car Tuesday afternoon in an irrigation reuse pit just south of Minden is likely that of a Kearney man reported missing last year.
An autopsy has been ordered to confirm the remains are those of 31-year-old Scott Rockefeller, who had been reported missing in June 2020. Officials say there are no indications of foul play.
The Kearney County Sheriff’s Office received a report about 4:30 Tuesday of a car in the reuse pit near Highway 10, about 3 miles south of Minden.
Kearney police and the Nebraska State Patrol joined sheriff’s deputies in responding on the belief the car might be associated with a missing person investigation.
It wasn’t until the car was towed out of the pit that the body was discovered along with the body of a dog.
