The Nebraska State Patrol says 2 people were killed Thursday afternoon when a flatbed truck rolled on Hwy 26 just outside Mitchell. The names of the victims have not been released.
The accident occurred just after 3:00 at the intersection of Hwy 20 and County Road 12. State Patrol Spokesman Cody Thomas says the preliminary investigation determined the pickup was westbound when the driver lost control and it rolled.
Thomas says the truck came to rest in the eastbound lanes of Hwy 26 and both occupants, a male and female, were ejected and died at the scene.
Thomas says the investigation continues with officials hoping to determine why the driver lost control.
