One Man Dead After Flight from DUI Investigation

One man has died following a pursuit after an impaired driving investigation in Hall County.

The Nebraska State Patrol said in a release that around 2:15 Tuesday afternoon a trooper observed a GMC Sierra suffer a tire failure going westbound near mile marker 310. The trooper stopped to assist the driver.

During the course of the conversation the trooper observed signs that the driver may be impaired. The trooper asked the driver to exit the GMC Sierra and walk back to the trooper’s vehicle. 

As the trooper approached his unit the subject ran back to his vehicle and fled. The trooper initiated a pursuit. 

The trooper attempted a tactical vehicle intervention, which was not successful. The driver of the GMC Sierra exited Interstate 80 at mile marker 305 and headed north towards Alda. Shortly after the vehicle lost control and crashed. 

The driver of the vehicle was ejected during the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The Nebraska State Patrol asked for assistance in the investigation of the crash with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office along with the Grand Island Police Department assisting in the investigation.
