Paul Edward Twiss “Wahachanka Ilehe” was born on March 14, 1985 to Donald and Harriet (Waters) Twiss. Paul made his journey to the Spirit World on July 3, 2023 at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Paul went to kindergarten at Rockyford School where he met his lifelong best friend, Paul Plume. Paul and Paul graduated from Rockyford and entered Red Cloud High School where they both participated in football and wrestling.

Paul became a champion wrestler under Coach Clay Leonard due to his perseverance and heart, not giving up despite only winning one match in his first two years of wrestling.

Paul was the salutatorian of his graduating class at Red Cloud School and earned the Brother Dennis Ryan Award for outstanding graduate and the Bob Clifford Award for outstanding achievement in athletics and academics. After high school, Paul started college on a full scholarship at Creighton University in Omaha, NE.

Paul looked up to his uncle Rich, who had served in the United States Marine Corps. That led him to leave Creighton over his family’s objections and enlist in the Marines.

He impressed the recruiters when they discovered that he had memorized and could recite the Marine Corps General Orders before he even signed up.

Paul served in Iraq and Afghanistan during his time in the Corps, but after coming back to the states he was diagnosed with PTSD, which affected the rest of his life.

Paul worked for the Oglala Sioux Tribe in the Food Distribution Program and as a Correctional Officer for many years. It was as a Correctional Officer that he met the love of his life, Doris Charging Crow, who became his wife.

Paul is survived by his wife Doris Charging Crow of Allen, SD; daughters Maya Twiss and Callista Twiss of Porcupine, SD; step-daughter Delilah Charging Crow; step-son Alonzo Charging Crow both of Allen; his parents Donald and Harriet Twiss; brothers Andrew (Lauren) Twiss, Robert Twiss, Joshua (Jaycee) Twiss, and Jeffery Twiss, all of Porcupine; uncles James (Mona) Twiss, Charles Waters Sr, and John Waters; aunts Wanda Waters, Theresa Waters, Violet Waters, and Francie Weasel Bear, and grandmother, Rebecca Horned Antelope.

Paul was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother Carrie Twiss; grandfather Clifford Twiss Sr; uncles Richard Twiss, Clifford Twiss, Jr., and Allen Waters, Sr.; aunt Veda Waters; and grandfather Joseph “Kadoke” Waters.

Pallbearers will be Paul Plume, Donovan Wright Jr, Tad Clarke, Jeremy Twiss, Charles Waters Jr, Marvin Ross, Steven Ross, John Brave Bird, and Becky LeBeau.

Honorary pallbearers will be all friends & relatives
