SC, Crawford Grapplers Medal

Sioux County grapplers brought home two fifth-place medals in conference action last Thursday.

Jadon Skavdahl was 2-1 on the day, while Jesse Dunn went 3-1 to earn his medal.

Skavdahl dropped to the 120-class consolation bracket after getting pinned in 1:27 by Hudson Deeds of North Platte St. Patrick’s in the quarterfinals. Skavdahl won his next two matches to take fifth place, pinning Aden Bates of Hershey in 1:46 and Colton Marghreim of Mitchell in 2:54.

Dunn earned his medal at 160. He lost a 14-4 major decision match to Cole Kerner of Sutherland to open the tournament, but pinned his next three opponents. Dunn pinned Wyatt Sauer of Mitchell in 2:12 and made quick work of Jared Perkins of Bayard, taking the match in 39 seconds. Dunn pinned Chase Brunsch of Hay Springs in 1:56 in his final match.

Crawford’s Carson Gibbons finished in sixth place in the 132 class. Gibbons opened the tournament with a loss to James McGinnis of Kimball before winning his next two matches. McGinnis pinned Gibbons in 2:51, while Gibbons pinned Cody Brinkman of Kimball in 2:10 and Coy Armstrong of Bayard in 2:49. In the contest for fifth-place, Jonathan Sosa of Chase County earned an 8-4 decision victory over Gibbons.

The Rams’ Colten Mader was the only other grappler to earn match wins at the tournament. Mader pinned Trenton Carrizales of Bayard in 1:52 to begin the day only to lose to Daniel Kohel of Morrill by a fall in 3:27. Mader responded with a pin of Emilio Dimas of North Platte St. Patrick’s in 1:23 before ending his day with an injury against Harrison Barnette of Bridgeport.

Sioux County’s third wrestler, Baxter Reece, was 0-2 at the tournament, dropping matches to Mason Toner of Perkins County and Keltin Vanarsdall of Hershey. Baxter was also 0-2 at the Southeast Duals Saturday, losing both of his matches by falls to Curtis Hopkins of North Park and Nathan Fish of Niobrara County.

Ty Anders, Fayt Anderson, Dalton Norman and Tristin Jacob all went 0-2 on the day. Anders lost by fall to Yovanni Jimenez of Mitchell and Tristin Costello of Gordon-Rushville, while Anderson was pinned by Luke Gardner of Garden County and Gabriel Kendrick of South Platte. Adam Hill of Garden County and Kyser Lewis of Morrill each pinned Norman, and Braxton Richards of North Platte St. Patrick’s and Jackson Jenkins of Mitchell pinned Jacob.
