Loading

The Nebraska Dept of Transportation has awarded $2.65-million dollars in federal grants from the Safe Streets and Roads for All program to 8 communities with Sidney the only one in the Panhandle.

Sidney’s grant is for $300,000.

The competitive grant program was established by the 2021 Infrastructure Law and provides $5 billion dollars over five years for regional, local, and Tribal initiatives for pedestrian safety projects.

The 437 successful applications nationwide in the latest round of funding included projects ranging from redesigned roads to better sidewalks and crosswalks, all with the goal of preventing deaths and serious injuries on the nation’s roadways.

The next round of funding is $1.1-billion dollars expected to be released in April of this year.

  1. Thank you Joe Biden and the democrats and the few republicans who voted for the infrastructure bill. I wish Chadron was a recipient of this. We could use more sidewalks and better sidewalks.

We need a stoplight at HWYS 385 and 20 in front of Big Bats.
