Thomas L. Hoffman was born February 27, 1939, in Deadwood, SD, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 22, 2021 after a one-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.

Tom grew up on the Black Hills Army Depot in Igloo, SD, and graduated with the class of 1957. A year later, he joined the U.S. Navy – beginning a career that would cover a little over 20 years on active duty and 10 years in the Naval Reserve.

During his 20-plus years of active duty, Tom served aboard three aircraft carriers: the USS Ranger, the USS Constellation, and the USS Forestall. Beside his various duties in the United States, Tom and his family spent 3-1/2 years on Midway Island.

While stationed in Virginia Beach, Tom and Donna were joined by a baby girl, Shelby. In 1979, Tom and his family settled in Chadron where he worked for Safeway for 23 years.

Tom leaves behind his wife Donna, daughter Shelby and husband Earl and three grandchildren. Justen and wife Dianna, great-grandson Greyson, Zachariah and Wife Jessica and great-grandson Lincoln, Granddaughter Ashten and special friend Grant Stewart.

He is also survived by sister Betty Martin and husband Norm, brother Steve Koller and wife Patricia, several nieces and nephews and hosts of friends, in which a number referred to him as Grandpa Tom.
