The Sioux County boys paced Guernsey-Sunrise for the first 12 minutes Thursday before the Vikings pulled away for a 66-42 victory.
Guernsey-Sunrise led by just three points after one quarter. Sioux County went on a 6-4 run to open the second quarter to make it 17-18 in favor of the Vikings with four minutes until the break. Guernsey-Sunrise stepped up the pressure on defense, however, and turned that into a 14-2 run over the Warriors in the closing minutes of the first half to take a 32-19 lead.
The Vikings had a big third quarter, dropping 29 points on the board, while the Warriors could only add eight. Sioux County closed the gap some with a 15-5 run in the final eight minutes but couldn’t overcome the deficit.
Tucker Monroe led the Warriors with 20 points, including two treys and a five-of-eight showing from the free throw line. Shane Gluth was also in double digits for Sioux County with 12. The Vikings had four players in double figures: Aiden Noggle with 13, Brian McCoid with 18, Tristan Hohnholt with 12 and Caleb Christensen with 14.
